This term describes a series of small, subtle actions like frequent heart-eye emojis to an ex, keeping an active dating profile "just for the ego boost," or saving a contact under a fake name that stop short of physical infidelity but still breach the sanctity of a relationship. While these acts might seem minor in isolation, their common denominator is secrecy and the cultivation of emotional intimacy outside the primary partnership.
The sting of microcheating often stems from the "energy leak" it creates. When a partner consistently seeks validation or excitement from digital "back-burner" relationships, they are effectively diverting the attention and transparency that belongs to their significant other.
